Developing novel cellular immunotherapies using the unique features of innate T lymphocytes
Research in our laboratory focuses on understanding the molecular recognition strategies, cellular interactions, and immunological effects of “innate” T lymphocytes. Innate T lymphocytes are highly conserved populations that are ideal for use in cellular immunotherapies because they can be readily transplanted between unrelated donors and mediate potent immunological effects. We are using these cells to develop new immunotherapeutic approaches to treat cancer and to improve outcomes of hematopoietic transplantation. To test the efficacy of our human immunotherapies in vivo, we have developed novel “human-immune-system” mouse models that provide a critical tool to bridge the gap between basic immunology research and clinical translation.
